No, I Won’t Make You Throw Away Everything

One of the questions I often hear from prospective clients is: “Are you going to make me throw everything away?!?!”

It’s often said in jest, but there’s definitely an element of curiosity—and sometimes trepidation. This idea that professional organizers are only there to force you into becoming a minimalist.

I’ve got great news for you; it’s not true! Here at The Organizing Boss, we will never force you to get rid of something. We may prod, challenge, and get you to think from different perspectives, but at the end of the day it’s your decision. And you have me on record for that!

My mantra: if you have the space and you have active plans to use something, keep it! When you don’t have space, or when you’re holding onto items for which you have no planned use, that’s when it’s time to reconsider.

For example, do you have a “bag of bags?” Many of us do. Check out the recent Washington Post article—we’re quoted!—on bags and the reasons people save them.
